Vehicle Licensing
City of Waukegan Ordinance 21.247 requires all vehicles registered
with the Secretary of State, State of Illinois to an address
within the corporate limits of the City of Waukegan, to display
a valid City vehicle sticker. This means that even if the vehicle
is not physically in Waukegan, it must display a valid City vehicle
sticker. The address appearing in the Secretary of State's records
for the vehicle is the criterion and the owner of record is responsible
for obtaining the sticker.
Vehicle license stickers are due April
30th. The vehicle license sticker expires every year. A new one
needs to be purchased by April 30th for the upcoming year.
The sticker must be displayed. The sticker shall be affixed to
the lower right hand corner of the windshield (passenger side).
Passenger vehicle stickers are available
for $40.00 for cars and $25 for motorcycles. If purchased after
May 31, the cost includes a penalty of 50% of the original fee.
If your plates are registered on or after November 1st you will
pay only 50% of the application fee when applying for a vehicle
sticker. Vehicles other than passenger vehicles have different
license fees, see City Ordinance 21.248.
Senior Citizen Discount (65 and older)
Persons age 65 and older qualify for a Senior Citizen discount
of $5.00 for the first car and $20.00 for each additional car
registered to the senior.
Transfer or Replacement of a Vehicle License
Sticker
If you replace a car at any time during the year, a transfer
of your City Vehicle License Sticker must be made by application
to the City Collector. Upon proof that the license sticker has
been destroyed, stolen or upon surrender of the original sticker,
for transfer, a new sticker shall be issued for a fee of $5.00.
Stickers are not transferable from one person to another.
